Meet our sweet boy King. Found on a busy New York City sidewalk, his body broken and spirit shattered, a beautiful Maine Coon mix was taken to a shelter. It was determined that he either fell, or, unimaginably, was thrown from the high-rise building near where he was found. His injuries were severe, the shelter overcrowded, and he was quickly added to the euthanasia list. With his time running out, Only Maine Coons Rescue discovered him on “the list” and immediately jumped into action to save the cat now named King. Once in rescue, King was safe but by no means out of the woods. His appearance only alluded to the extent of his injuries. His little face and lips were mangled and his paw appeared crushed. Our veterinarian diagnosed him with multiple broken bones in his paw, many broken and missing teeth, and a large split in his palate that went from the front of his mouth to the back. He must have hit the concrete face first! King could not eat on his own, and required subcutaneous fluids and syringe feeding. His paw was treated with a splint. It took weeks of round the clock care, feedings, and vet visits to help King build his strength back. Once he was stable, King underwent a reconstructive surgery to fix his split palate. Time will tell if he will need an additional surgery to close up a tiny gap that remains. Through all of the treatments and handling, King was gentle, courageous, and so appreciative. King sustained some neurological issues, nothing major, his head will bob a little when he is excited or trying to focus on something when ready to pounce. Today, with both his paw and mouth almost at a 100%, King is healthy, loves to play, adores cuddles, and gives lots of gratitude kisses. The best part is King is now ready and waiting for his very own forever home! He will need a home with a younger kitty / playful kitty or a home of his own. He is high energy and a stalker of kitties! King has been neutered, is UTD on his vaccines, and has tested negative for FeLV/FIV. Like the gentleman he is, King also has impeccable litter box manners. King is located in Absecon, NJ.
